So, it was tough getting up at 1:30 a.m. to make coffee and try to find my shoes, but it was well worth it. By 6 a.m. we were chugging out into the Chesapeake on a 45 ft. charter boat, and soon afterwards, the 6 of us, plus captain Brian and mate Doyle began hauling striped bass, or rock fish, in on any one of the boat's 10 poles, equipped with 40 lb. fishing line and artificial lures.
The legal limit is 18 inches long, and the daily limit of striped bass is two fish per person. I had a chance to real in a 30 inch bass. By around 11 o'clock, we'd caught our limit, and began to head towards shore. Another factor for the rather early return was that the one young gal on our crew, Becky, well, she got rather sick, to say the least. It was a clear, windy day...a beautiful day to be out on the bay.
