This past Sunday was a very long, very enjoyable (for the most part) Sunday. The day started early, with a 3:45 a.m. airport run, dropping of Darrol and Kim Prusia and friends Dan and Kelly for their 6:50 flight. We made it to the airport in 22 minutes...a trip that often takes 2 hours or better during rush hour. I tell people there is only one speed for Mexico...as fast as you can. Usually in Mexico City that's not very fast, but at 4 a.m., well, you can make good time.
Then back home to bed for another couple hours of sleep, to be rested (sort of) for a different Sunday service. We once again had the service outside, under a tent, setting up the drums, keyboard, bass guitar and three electric-acustic guitars on soggy grass. We had several visitors. One testimony was particulary meaningful...a man who can for the first time with his wife, who heard about the service through her attendance at ESL classes. He said that we didn't even know why he was there, but that he didn't have the words to express how much the service meant to him. God was working in his heart. Attendance was around 70 I would guess.
The interns once again did the "Redeemer" drama, and Martin did an excellent job of explaining the gospel. Several people there probably heard the gospel for the very first time. No one responded...at least visibly, but many were impacted deeply by the drama. Then Jonatan Toledo preached. He did a great job.
After church Mayra, David Gomez, Jonathan Toledo and I went to Pepe's 15th birthday party. It's customary here for the person celebrating his or her birthday to take a bite out of the cake...which everyone waits for to push his or her face down into the cake. Here's some pictures.
But the day wasn't over. We still had a couple of parties to attend! Alan, who has been helping coordinate the ESL classes here, invited us all over to his parents' house at 4. We got their a little late, after eating some cake, and then...ate again of course! Enjoy the video. After the meal, Alan had fun dancing with all the girls. In the video, internship leader Crystal dancing with her Mexican brother, Alex.
After that, it was off to the movies, watching Hancock and Kung Fu Panda. I dropped Abby and Brooke off at their host homes at 10 p.m., then took Melanie home, only to encounter our third party of the day. Miguel and Tania, Alberto and Claudia and their kids were with Samuel and Aurora...and they still had some food left. So we finished out our day in our third party...very hard to do in Mexico, not because they're not a lot of parties...but because you usually spend all day at one of them!
