After paying about $12 for 4.8 lbs. of trout that we caught too quickly, we decided to try our luck in the large pond below the trout hatchery, a pond with zip wires going over it and paddleboats on top of it. We had seen carp (or large goldfish...basically the same thing) in this pond previously, but after another hour and a half of angling, no dice. We did learn, however, that fishing can be in fact more enjoyable if you don't actually catch anything. This statement is something that only a true fisherman, and not a weekend wannabe, can understand.
I received an email from Jon White, Camino Global missionary and now ministering at Río Grande Bible Institute, that we can give one workshop and be involved in some round table times at their missions conference early next year. I'm excited about this opportunity!
I can't let this day go without one more comment on Day of the Dead. This evening I saw a mob of probably 100 people on the street, a mixture of Halloween and Mexico's own Day of the Dead festivity. Weird mix. Dark mix. I'm borrowing a picture from Stephen P. on a typical table, an ofrenda or offering to deceased relatives. This particular one...with an addition of La Santa Muerte, or the holy death, Mexico's newest and most bizarre belief system.
It's amazing how fallen man gravitates towards death rather than life. Darkness rather than light. Could it be because their deeds are evil? Could it be that light exposes them?
John 3:19-21 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
Too bad people insist on worshiping the conquered instead of the Conqueror.
