This past Sunday evening, co-worker David Gómez and I called Myron Loss in Uruguay via Skype. Myron and his wife have been serving in Uruguay with SIM for many years now. It was interesting to hear that he is initially from PA, and also attended MBI. I actually have a book he wrote on adapting to initial cultural shock.
The reason for our call was to clarify David's responsibilities and living arrangements during his time in Uruguay. David hopes to leave for that country this December. We are excited to be able to send a Mexican from our church here to minister in another country. His proposed term of service is 1-2 years. Another important reason for calling him was to understand better the restrictions for Christian workers in that country. Long-term presence is increasingly difficult. Shorter commitments, such as David's, are still possible.
It was encouraging to talk to Myron. The activities that await David are areas that he is particularly gifted by God to do. Currently he is raising support...he has all the money he needs for his plane ticket (about $840), but still needs about $1500 for outgoing expenses, and about $500 for monthly support.
