Joshua Daniel

Thanks to all of you who have been praying for my friends Dan and Katie and the birth of their son, Joshua Daniel.

Halfway through their pregnancy it was detected that their unborn baby had a condition called omphalocele, where some of the major organs developed outside the abdominal cavity. There was also some concern about potential genetic issues.

Fortunately, through tests the genetic concerns were not a factor, but the omphalocele certainly was. To God be the glory, Joshua was born yesterday, and his condition and also the health of his mother is good. Here's a couple of updates:

Yesterday, Monday
Joshua Daniel was born at 9:34 am. today weighing in at 6 lbs. 6 oz. He is on oxygen, but not a ventilator. The surgeon indicated that the omphalocele is a "good shape" for going back into the abdominal cavity. Continue to pray as they assess him - pray for good lung function. Katie is doing well.

Today (from Dan's sister, Mandy)
The latest update is that he is on less oxygen as the day has progressed. He made need support later after surgeries, but if his lungs continue to do well, they will start the procedure for treating the omphalocele on Wednesday. The surgeon has said that the shape of the omphalocele should make it go back in more easily- great news! It was also much smaller than I'd imagined... smaller than a lemon. The genetics team was very happy with his growth, and he has a great team of nurses. He's adorable, and we'll be glad once the tape is off of his little cute face! Poor guy! :) We are really encouraged by his great day today, and we ask that you continue to pray for great news! Dan and Katie are doing well, but of course, tired and overwhelmed by everything that is going on. Katie is recovering from the surgery well.
