Christmas in Mexico is really celebrated more on the 24th than on the 25th. Our celebration started around 8 p.m. with the arrival of Mayra's parents, sister, brother, sister-in-law and their two kids.
We began the night with a "now you have it, now you don't" simple gift game, but a fun game, where the "favorite gift" ends up changing hands many times. Then we set off fireworks, and Daniel managed to burn a quarter-sized hole in a brand new sweatshirt his grandma Fry sent the whole way from PA. After that...the meal, which we finished at nearly midnight. Such is Mexico...everything is later. Then we had a Christmas devotional on Matthew 1 and our annual gift exchange, among the highlights, leather boots for Mayra and a walking dinasaur for David. The more fireworks...and around 2 a.m., all 12 of us found a place to sleep on beds, fold-out sofas, air mattresses and the floor.
The on Christmas Day, we loaded into two cars and took a little trip to a dairy farm about 45 minutes away that also has 2 lions, 2 deer, a number of llama, a bunch of peacocks and...oh yeah, lots of cows. Also a great view of the two snow-capped volcanos (yes, we have snow here too).
All in all, Mayra and I are just trying to rest...to recover from 10 days with 19 people from MI and several large church events.
