Life and Ministry, and a new church plant

Last Wednesday, Martin, Samuel, Miguel, Jim and I had a meeting to determine, in a sense, the future direction of the church. Martin will be recognized as pastor/elder this coming March, and Miguel will be recognized as a deacon. Both men are already serving and acting like elders and deacons (thus the term "recognized!" This is HUGE for the church...our first formal national leadership.

We had initially planned on going on a 6-12 month home assignment, but for a number of reasons have decided to spend only about a month and a half in the U.S. during July and August, 2009. I've told Martin that after March he is going to tell me what to do...that he is the main pastor in charge of the work. This will enable the Fry family, with a group of people from our current church, to look into starting another church plant, and to starting it sooner that we had initially planned, due to our change in plans.

SO...pray for us and for those who will be going with us in this new, exciting endeavor. Pray for the with whom, where, when and how of this decision. There are many neighborhoods that need a church (even the neighborhood where the church is currently in is big enough for a Sendero 2). Pray with us that the Lord would give us wisdom in this.

In other news, I've spoken with an administrative assistant at Woodside, Stephanie, and also the group leader, Cliff Johnson, about more details regarding their time here. We have 3 big events planned, plus a lot of little events during the 19-member team's time here, December 13-22. The latest event is a huge block-party evangelistic extravaganza...Friday, December 19, right in the street in front of the church.

Well, gotta go. Got a birthday party, youth group and the Christmas drama practice yet today!
