This past week has been full of activity. David attended a special kindergarten this past week so that he could be evaluated using various tests...we were pleased with the evaluation he received and it has enabled us to understand a little better how to help him. Bottom line...he just is a bit immature for his age.
On Thursday we became aware through Claudia, a lady in the church, that the 2 year old son of her neighbor had died. I was on my way along with David, Ty, Alberto and Mauricio and my guitar to do the service when Martin called. Laura, his wife, is pregnant with their third child, but it's a high-risk pregnancy, and Laura was experiencing pain. I took her into the hospital and met Martin there. The ultrasound did not reveal any problems, thank God.
On Friday, after the morning discipleship study Ty, Alberto, Israel and I went to buy a windshield for a car that Abby was driving. Abigail is also a new believer and was involved in a bad accident about a month ago. Israel offered to help us get the windshield at distributor's prices...we paid $43 for a windshield.
Later on that day we taught an English class, then took out the back seat of the van and loaded it up with amplifiers, a drum set, guitars etc...for a youth activity that evening around a campfire, at Samuel and Aurora's house. Good time had by all. Ty gave a devotional which I translated.
Saturday was a very sad day. We received news on Friday that Karen, a girl who was one of our flower girls at our wedding 12+ years ago, was hit an killed by a car. She was 17. It was a huge shock for the family. Daniel and I attended the funeral with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. At the grave site, one of her uncles just started screaming at the top of his lungs, "God, why did you let this happen!" "God, I don't understand." The family is composed of strong Christians, but this tragedy was hard to bear. It scared Daniel. He just wanted to leave.
Today I am at a field council meeting in San Juan del Rio. Mayra is with the kids...you can pray for her. Tomorrow our church mascot, Brigam, flies in from Buffalo, NY.
