Honoring Those in Our Communities

I was pleased to hear about a special service honoring local First Responders and Emergency Personnel, hosted by our home church, Word of Life Chapel.  Many of these men and women are volunteers, investing their time and risking their physical integrity to aid their local communities.

You can check out a couple of their websites here:

One of our beliefs regarding the local church is that it should be integrated into local culture, aware of and helpful to local authorities, conscious of community events and responsive to community needs.  In a word, we should KNOW the community where God has placed us.  The church for too long has been ignored by our small towns and big cities.  Why?  Because maybe we have ignored our communities, except for an occasional foray to invite them to a DVBS.

I remember accompanying a couple of friends from another church, Jeff Pierce and Dick Bennet from Leroy Chapel, as they attended a Painesville Community event.  Dick is head of a local YMCA in NE Ohio.  Jeff heads up Convoy of Hope every year, reaching out to the community in all sorts of creative ways. Our friendship and association with community leaders from all walks of life should not be underestimated!

Quote of the Day: Suppose you are an extra in an upcoming movie. You will probably scrutinize that one scene where hundreds of people are milling around, just waiting for that two-fifths of a second when you can see the back of your head. Maybe your mom and your closest friend get excited about that two-fifths of a second with you … maybe. But no one else will realize it is you. Even if you tell them, they won’t care. Let’s take it a step further.
What if you rent out the theater on opening night and invite all your friends and family to come see the new movie about you? People will say, “You’re an idiot! How could you think this movie is about you?” Many Christians are even more delusional than the person I’ve been describing. So many of us think and live like the movie of life is all about us.
