I thought I'd let those of you who follow the blog in on an opportunity to help us here. I'm copying part of an email I sent my home church a few days ago. If you would like to help, either email more or put a note on the "comment" section below this post, and I'll get back to you. If you do not live in PA, you could send your instrument to an address that I will give to you where we can pick it up and bring it back to Mexico.
Here's the email...
As many of you know, we run a community center closely related to the church, and each fall and spring semesters we offer a 12-14 week course, with different activities such as English, basketball, guitar, etc...
This coming semester we would like to do something a bit different. Although we will probably continue with ESL classes, we would also like to offer music classes, with a different instrument every day of the week.
That's where we need your help. We will be in PA for two weeks (August 10-25), and would like to bring instruments back with us. What instruments, you may ask? Well, here's the list.
Saxophone
Clarinet
Violin
Trumpet
Flute
small keyboard (fit in suitcase)
small percussion instruments (tambourine, etc..)
Everybody and their brother has a guitar here, but these instruments listed above are hard to find. We will also be looking for teachers to hire to teach some of these instruments during the community center hours.
Ideally, we'd like to have two or three of each instrument, i.e., it would be preferable to have three of one instrument rather than 1 of three instruments, but we'll take whatever you can find!
Used instruments are fine. Actually, to buy these instruments new is very expensive. But I'm guessing that you may have one of these instruments from when your boy or girl played in band years ago in high school, or you could probably find some of these instruments at reduced costs at garage sales or flee markets.
Remember, we'll be taking these items back on the plane, so please, no harps or stand-up contrabass please!
We hope that this will be a new way to reach out to our community here with the love of Christ.
