Sing, Sing a Song...or Paint a Picture

Over the next several months I'll be teaching a singing and music course (mostly singing) to two different groups of worship leaders, in the Sendero 1 and Sendero 2 churches.  Below...the list of vocal tonality points, translated from a manual that the Moody Chorale and Moody Church used (and perhaps still uses).  I had to pretty much memorize these points while in the Chorale...Mr. Ed liked to pick on those of us on the front row!

Below, a picture that Sam painted for Word of Life Chapel last summer. The picture depicts the sower and the seed...with the man in the middle being sent by the church to spread the seeds of the Word to the world. The church's motto is "holding forth the Word of Life." In the mural, the seed is sown, and brings a harvest of a hundred fold, as depicted by the hands full of corn at the bottom middle of the painting.  Matt. 13.

I remember doing an all-nighter in the C&C office in Bainbridge the night before Samuel was to present the painting to the church on a Sunday morning.  Thanks, Cari, for the photo!

Good news!  The very beginning of the document/paperwork process is going well, for a plot of land that we are pursuing for the second church.

A.     La Tonalidad Vocal:

1. Libertad – las piernas FIRMES, los pulmones LLENOS, la mandíbula y garganta RELAJADAS.
2. Vitalidad – Mantenga un flujo de aire pasando por la laringe. Debe de ser constante hasta el FIN de la frase..
3. Sonoridad – la columna de aire debe estar enfocada en el paladar superior e inferior de la boca, permitiendo resonancia máxima en las cavidades nasales, bocales y de la garganta. Estas zonas de la boca son sus áreas para crear sonido y resonancia.  Cada vocal tiene un sonido puro, lleno.  Los sobretonos están presentes.
4.  Suavidad de Sonido – Todas las vocales se cantan para ir de acuerdo con la frase en una progresión constante y sin variación en tonalidad.  Mantenga la mandíbula abajo y relajada; la lengua abajo con el punto de la lengua abajo en los dientes inferiores; garganta relajada, con la boca un poco redonda.
5. Eficiencia – El poder de la voz está en su resonancia. No se debe de producir demasiado o muy poco aire que pase por la laringe.  Se debe de dirigir la tonalidad desde las placas de la boca hacia algo en el auditorio.
6. El Color y La Expresividad  – La voz puede ser usada para expresar grandes emociones.  Use su instrumento para comunicar gozo, tristeza, compromiso, desacuerdo intenso, meditación tranquila, etcétera.  Se puede aún imaginar varios colores que se están cantando.
